Simplebim: Fundamentals

About Course

Simplebim is one of the most practical tools available for working with IFC models — and this course shows you exactly how to use it.

You will start with the basics: navigating the 3D model, selecting elements, and getting a clear overview using different visualization modes. From there, you will dig into the information side of the model — understanding object classes, reading element parameters, and learning to judge how complete and reliable your model data actually is.

The course then moves into hands-on workflows. You will build groups, create and customize tables, modify parameters, and export clean data to Excel. You will also build several DATAFLOWs from scratch — including a solution that automatically pulls finishing surface quantities from an architectural model, complete with room information and area values.

Everything is demonstrated on real models. No theory for the sake of theory — just practical skills you can apply to your next project.

As someone who works with model data but doesn't model myself, this gave me a much better understanding of what to ask from the design team

I've been coordinating BIM models for years but always exported data manually. The DATAFLOW section completely changed my approach — I had a working automation set up the same day
